President Bola Tinubu on Thursday said he takes pleasure in seeing opposition parties in disarray and has no plans to help them organise themselves.

“Political parties fearful of leaving may be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs rather than fearfully conjuring up demons that do not exist.

“For me, I would say try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you do so. It is, indeed, a pleasure to witness you in such disarray,” Tinubu said during his State of the Nation address at a t session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, held to commemorate Democracy Day.

Amid recent defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress, Tinubu also dismissed claims that his istration is pushing Nigeria towards becoming a one-party state.

Tinubu said, “A one-party state is not in the offing. Nor should it ever be. That said, we would be guilty of political malpractice if we closed the door on those from other parties who now seek to the APC and I sincerely welcome our party’s newest from Delta and Akwa Ibom States led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Pastor Umo Eno and other of this National Assembly.”

“We must welcome and accept the diversity and number of political parties just as we welcome and embrace the diversity of our population. Our efforts must never be to eliminate political competition but to make that competition salutary to the national well-being by working across the political aisle whenever possible.”

The President also announced national honours for dozens of Nigerians, including the late Kudirat Abiola, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Ken Saro-Wiwa, among others.

“I shall also be exercising my powers under the prerogative of mercy to grant these national heroes a full pardon, together with others whose names shall be announced later in conjunction with the National Council of State,” the President said.

When asked about resolving the crisis in Labour Party, Peter Obi stated that the crisis in Labour Party is caused by government. He said he had visited President Yar'adua and President Yar'adua called the INEC chairman and said he didn't want any problem in any political party. Obi claimed that that intervention ended the crisis in APGA. So why did Obi leave APGA after his tenure?

Kenneth Okonkwo argued that INEC was blocking the registration of a coalition political party.

El Rufai decamped to SDP and they refused to let him take over the show. SDP declined to the coalition. African Democratic Congress (ADC) is also singing a different tune.

Most of those discussing coalition came from PDP. Why cant they do the coalition into PDP? If the PDP had not been factionalized due to the unmanageable egos of those who divided the PDP votes, PDP would have returned to power in 2023.

What is the way forward?

To be fair, it is not Tinubu's job to fix the opposition. If the opposition is rudderless, it would play to Tinubu's advantage. It took Tinubu ten years to build an opposition party (AC/ACN). It took Buhari 4 years to build his (Congress for Progressive Change). Both blocs formed the core of APC in 2013. Tinubu and Buhari never blamed PDP for causing disarray within their fold. Right now, Atiku, Obi and El Rufai have no control or influence within any political party. My advice is to bury their selfish ambitions, merge into PDP or form a new political party. They blamed INEC and Tinubu for their loss in 2023. They can't continue on this path into 2027. They might end up not contesting if the parties refuse to field them. Atiku's hegemony of an ancestral presidential aspirant is already being challenged in PDP.

Enough of the gaslighting, and do actual work in building an opposition.

El Rufai has not spoken since he was fined almost 1 billion naira for violence against his critics as governor.

Let his say something to his fans.

Well, the opposition is weakened. Let's see what happens between now and 2027. All might not be soft selling yet. The president should not be lured to sleep by the gale of defections. The masses are not defecting with them. He should concentrate on the masses. GEJ had 22 governors in his kitty in 2014 but still lost.

A certain people carry around the rumors that a president is ensuring that there's a problem in their parties to make them decamp to APC....

How can you spread something that doesn't make sense to any reasonable human?

How on earth will I accuse another man of causing crisis in my family if we are United as a man you take responsibility
Enemy don’t want you home to work but you make it work that’s your responsibility same apply to parties

If opposition can control your small party it means you can’t even control Nigeria because opposition will dictate your strike and easy collapse of government

Tinubu was being sincere when he said he took pleasure in seeing the opposition in disarray.

This reminds me of the day we were playing football in the university. It was an interdepartmental competition in my faculty. Suddenly, the other team started fighting among themselves and that lead to them losing the match to us as they were in complete disarray.

I've been saying this a million times. Put your house in order and stop blaming Tinubu for your party's problems. When you don't put your house in order, it is very easy for outsiders to come in and destroy everything. We should not forget that Jonathan and PDP also tried to scuttle APC when the party was formed in 2013, but APC survived because they really put their house in order.

Tell Abure, your colleague that Obi is never and will never be in his league. Obi will forever be your nightmare and that of BAT

Why would they do that when they can blame you.

If they also mistakenly become president, they continue to blame you for their failures.

I love the speech regarding this by the president. Listening to that speech, you can't but keep wondering what kind of substandard materials was used to creat the brains of one malla who recently resigned his position in APC on allegation that Tinubu is moving the country towards one party state and another guy who said a core democrat as Tinubu is responsible for the crisis in his party.

Voice of Esau, hand of Jacob.

You can pretend all you want, but those with functioning brains know you're behind the crisis bedeviling other opposition parties because of your greed for one Party system.
