Construction Company Owned By Tinubu’s Lebanese Ally, Chagoury Sacks Over 150 Workers For Protesting Against Poor Remunerations

The construction firm owned by Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire and close ally of President Bola Tinubu, Gilbert Chagoury, has sacked over 150 workers for staging a protest against poor remuneration and slave-like working conditions.

The latest development is a brutal response to the protest that erupted last week at the company’s site in Lagos, where workers downed tools and marched in protest against years of neglect, unfair pay, and exploitative labour practices.

Workers who spoke to SaharaReporters confirmed that those targeted were deliberately selected for their roles in the protest.

They handpicked those that participated in the protest,” one of the workers revealed.

got the report yesterday that over 150 people were sacked, including one of the site supervisors. They accused them of causing unrest.”

What really led to the protest last week was that the workers demanded for improved welfare. For instance, the transport allowance was N2000 daily and the management did not increase after removal of subsidy. The increment of transport fares made life uncomfortable for the workers and they begged the management to increase the transport allowance but they turned deaf ears.

This was what resulted in the protest last week and this pushed them to increase the money from N2000 to N3500. But they have sacked about 150 workers now, particularly those behind the protest,” the worker added.

He also highlighted long-standing grievances at the company, including exploitation of Nigerian staff by their foreign counterparts and forced work on public holidays.

“Other issues that the workers are not pleased with are the foreign domination and working during the public holidays. Like today now (Democracy Day), we don’t have holiday. Even this Monday (Sallah Break) we were forced to work.”

Gilbert Chagoury: Tinubu’s chief money launderer. Under this notorious Tinubu regime, corruption wears agbada that’s why there’s no fight against it. They are the ones benefiting from it.

Arabs are very autocratic and do not like to be challenged..

The workers should take that Lebanese kleptomaniac to court.

You are Lebanese, making billions of dollars from Nigerians, yet you are sacking Nigerian workers.

Can Trump tolerate that if you do it Americans? Can Arabs tolerate that if an African does that in the middle east?

A Nigerian company should just absorb all the sacked staffs…I will just advise anyone that before you challenge your employer, get another job first cos no other employer will employ you once they know you were sacked from somewhere for challenging your former employer.

As much as I don't believe Sahara Reporters, if by chance this happens to be true, it would be the height of wickedness.

As much as this is a private issue, the president should ensure Nigerian workers are well remunerated for any job they are employed to do.

On the other hand, this appears to be contract roles, which makes it easier for employer to dispatch with employees they are uncomfortable with.

I watching a film 'All the president's men'! They are covered and they are law unto themselves, they act with reckless abandon and in the worst form of impunity in whatever they are involved in,yet you can do no sh*t!
When it comes to the Chagoury's,its a case of 'see no evil, hear no evil'!

This Tinubu is so audacious as if he chop winch,it is the same chargouri he sold the thriving eko hotel to during his time, he is just enriching the Lebanese guy with our Nigeria money, while his stunch ers are chopping only agbado because they don't know better, instead of pursuing their on self interest, like Tinubu is doing, which can be guaranteed only through good governance, they are using their lives to pursue Tinubu interest

it's better u work with the devil than to work with a Lebanese firm. Stop defending evil it will always boomerang back to you. People working there are telling you firsthand of how they are being maltreated you are here saying thrash. Do u work with them?

your family company can employ all of them so that they can work like ant and eat like elephant…mtcheew
If u don’t kiss the truth, most of these people maybe not all don’t have a skill, education and certification, they do daily labor jobs.even in America most of our youths with their qualification and background back home do these jobs under stringent conditions too,yes maybe the remuneration is different but it doesn’t conform.
Our youths can’t be using 3/5years to work as laborers when they can learn a craft and be on their own, being a welder, fashion designer, hair stylist and many others may not take up to 3years to make you independent.

My advise to the youth, get a hand work today, master in it and you won’t regret it in future. If my tailor makes 5 clothes in a week at average of 15k,some designs costs up to 30k,how can he be looking for a labor job to do?.

It is simple reasoning. It means the money claimed paid went back to SW president via back door. How can a president be this corrupt. Who is he gathering all this money to keep with his 90 yrs.And he still pays your type stipends to be here 247.Is this not inhumanity

under this regime, there are igbos making it,there are Hausas making it,there are Yorubas making it.if you are not making it,it is your own personal problem, maybe you will start making it after 2031 when Tinubu leaves power.continue to lament…even Peter Obi’s fidelity rose profit from less than 150b to over almost 400b in 2024 and so many other testimonies and he is telling you that Nigeria is not good…stay there and be lamenting and ranting all your life.maybe someday you will tell your children say na Yoruba or another tribe cause your misfortune.
I still receive messages and calls daily from people here asking about my service, instead of post what you can do or what you engage in even if it is buying and selling, stay here and be blaming someone for your inefficiency and your unproductiveness.

The mvmv OP still had to drag Tinubu in as if Tinubu owns the company. Everything must be politicized even when it doesn't make sense
Exgee(m): 11:27am On Jun 13
Tinubu must prefer order his friends to reinstate the sacked workers immediately.

Labour laws are not working here in Nigeria. Its so bad
